HOW TO MAKE CANNABUTTER FOR EDIBLES

How to make cannabutter for cooking - a simple guide - grind bud, boil water, add butter, add bud, cook, strain cannabutter, cool, done

CHOOSE GREAT INGREDIENTS  

Highly recommended are organic ingredients for every reason, nutritional, taste and you're supporting the good guys, the small farmers out there, as opposed to big faceless corporate agriculture that sprays chemicals on everything.   You certainly won't want to trust black market weed that might have come from the various mafias out there, whose ethics are exactly the same as the mafia that big corp is..  

Both groups will sacrifice life and limb to get their money.  This idea extends to your food too.  People should consider looking seriously into who's doing what with their food.  GMO, sprays, preservation techniques and cosmetic agents that all make the produce look great, but the nutritional content and even the taste sucks.   

And why not grow your own organically? There are some outstanding varieties of marijuana that grow easily outside with little care.  With home grown non-sprayed, you know for sure what's in it  For ingredients and materials, we recommend: free range butter, materials of stainless steel, glass, cotton, glass or wood - no plastics or BPA coatings (on metals or glass) at any step.

 

INGREDIENTS

1 ounce dried flower (bud) or 1/2 ounce Kief (powder concentrate from the flowers)
2 cups butter or cooking oils: coconut, canola, olive, peanut....

 

  • Saucepan

  • Wooden spoon

  • Bowl

  • Cheesecloth

  • String or rubber band

  • Coffee grinder- blender
     

GRIND BUD
Place bud in a small coffee grinder or blender and grind finely.

Note: The finer the powder is ground, the more of the active ingredients, the essential oils, THC and CBD that will be extracted.
 

BOIL WATER

Pour water into a large pot - 6 inches of water and then bring it to to a boil.
 

ADD BUTTER AND BUD
Add 2 cups butter to boiling water - wait until melted
Turn heat down to simmer.

Stir in 1 ounce of bud.
Simmer for 3 hours

Stir every 15 minutes and don't boil.

Note: As the butter-weed mixture cooks, the butter becomes darker and thicker
 

STRAIN YOUR BUTTER

Secure the cheesecloth in place by wrapping the string or rubber band around the bowl.

Leave a little slack on the cheesecloth so that you don't spill your liquid cannabutter.
The butter-weed mixture is ready to pour after 3 hours, when it has thickened up and looks glossy.Pour the melted butter - cooked bud - and water mixture through the cheesecloth.   

Place a double layer of cheesecloth over the bowl. After the melted butter is strained, remove the string or rubber band securing the cheesecloth to the bowl.  Lift the cloth up by its corners, and squeeze out the remaining butter into the bow..

 

COOL AND SOLIDIFY THE BUTTER

Let the butter cool in the bowl to room temperature then place in the refrigerator.
Cream floats to the top and so does the Cannabutter.  Leave the mixture in the fridge for several hours until it is completely solidified, then run a knife around the edge of the bowl and remove the end product.  

 

DONE LIKE DINNER

Now you're ready to use your cannabutter in any recipe that calls for butter or oil.  Simple substitute your cannabutter in.  If the potency of the edible is calculated to be too high you can cut your cannabutter with oil or regular butter.


 

CALCULATIONS - DOSE

If you are not a mathemagician, focus on this fact.  If you add 1000 mg of THC into a recipe and the are 10 servings, each serving contains 100mg.  After absorbing this simple fact, move onto other, slightly more complicated calculations.

If your weed is 20% THC, one gram of this oil has about 100mg THC. One tablespoon or 15 grams of this cannabutter will have 1500mg.  This is the equivalent of 15 x 100 mg servings.

Note that 20 grams is more than enough for some individuals.  Facts and figures that relate to calculation dose per edible.:

  • 1 ounce is about 28 g.  

  • 1 gram is 28000 mg.

  • A typical strain has 20% THC content

  • 1 ounce of marijuana with 20% THC has about 5.4 g or 5400 mg THC

  • This is enough for 54 100mg servings

  • Many people are fine with only 10-20 mg.

  • I tablespoon is 15 g.

  • 1 cup of butter is about 228 g.
