About VACAVILLE

With a population of about 95,000 people, Vacaville is the 77th most populous city in California.

Like most cities in Solano County, Vacaville first inhabitants were indigenous peoples.  The lands fell under Spanish / Mexican control from the late 18th to mid-19th century. After the Mexican-American War of 1822, Anglo-Americans took over the majority of California property including the lands about Vacaville.

Both the early settlement and the city was primarily based on agriculture.  The Spanish raised cattle and gradually the range of agricultural products was diversified as new blood - with new ideas - came to town.

Over the past forty years of so, the once thriving agricultural industry has declined.  Now there are very few remaining agricultural acres left within the city limit.  Still, Solano County generates over $300 million in foodstuff per annum.  Vacaville is home to many large produce companies, such as Nut Tree and other local farms that flourish in the Vaca Valley's rich soil,.

Agricultural products are real income, as compared to a "fictional" facebook or twitter type income.  Sure, you can buy food with those internet based dollars selling "information", but come depression time, you will definitely want to own a farm where you can fill your belly with corn on the cob - rather than trying to flog some kind of facebook app. or some such  non-essential in-the-cloud whatever.

So why not buy 5 acres outside of town and get yourself a lifetime supply of organic food and marijuana to boot? Isn't this idea a no-brainer.

Did you know? The city was an original Pony Express stop?

‘No grow’ on marijuana in Vacaville; water rate increase approved - 2016

A prohibition on growing marijuana, as well as an increase to water rates, were both approved Tuesday night by the Vacaville City Council.  A “No Grow” ordinance, prohibiting all personal cultivation of marijuana, in addition to prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries and deliveries of medical marijuana in the city, was unanimously approved by the city council.

The ordinance includes a 48-month sunset clause, so staff can look at all of the legal, policy and safety issues associated with the cultivation of medical marijuana for personal use in Vacaville. “I think it’s for the greater good with regard to the community in terms of safety,” - Councilman Mitch Mashburn.

PSD’s are used for vehicle searches and search warrants. They are trained to find Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, Opium, and Marijuana. Both have been deployed on narcotic searches and both have been credited with several finds including ones that criminals hide so well the officer probably would not have found it if the PSD had not been used.

Comment: Here we go again, lumping marijuana together with alcohol and hard drugs.  Someone needs to tell these folks that legalization of marijuana has resulted (in every place studied) in less DUIs, suicides and deaths from hard drug overdose.
