Did you know?
- "Torrance is the birthplace of the American Youth Soccer Organization.and also has the second-highest percentage of Japanese in California @ 9 %."
Torrance was originally homeland to the Tongva Native people. Their world was rocked when the Spanish came to town in the 1780's. In 1784, their lands were confiscated in a Spanish land "grant". The entire area became a Rancho with the ultimate title holder being the King of Spain himself. In the years after the Mexican-American War, the Torrance territory came into American hands. In the early 1900's a real estate developer saw the benefit of creating a new kind of community near Los Angeles. Developer Jared Torrence tactically purchased the bulk of the ranch land in the vicinity. Torrence's concept was to mix the right kind of industry with a skilled labor population to form a competitive and profitable community/enterprise.
This pie in the sky scheme became an official reality in 1912 when the City of Torrance was officially incorporated. To this day, many of the original houses still stand in what is known today as "Old Torrance". The workforce that migrated to town included a generous portion of Dutch, German, Greek, Italian and Portuguese. Later Hispanic and Latino immigrants joined the mix finding employment in agriculture, petroleum, and manufacturing.
After the rotten Depression, Torrance was born again in the post-war period. Aerospace and technological industries came to town, which in turn supported many supporting businesses. Moving forward, since the 1970's, the city would become deindustrialized with the many recessions. Recent large-scale immigration has transformed Torrance into a diverse, multi-cultural city.
Today the economy is still dominated by real home spun business; aerospace, automotive, optics, medical and other technological endeavours.

Weird as it might seem, Torrance and Pasadena is home to hundreds of parrots.
Urban myth "states" that the pretty talking birds came from a nursery in east Pasadena or South Torrance. The nursery caught on fire in 1969. Somehow in the aftermath of the mayhem, the parrots were released to fend for themselves. And so the legend of the "Pasadena" Parrots was born. Still other stories say the Parrots were brought in my Mexican smugglers. Take your pick!

The “War on Drugs” is still claiming casualties among people just like you. While California has made important reforms in the way our state laws treat drug crimes, many law enforcement authorities and prosecutors have not changed their attitudes and still operate under a “War on Drugs” mentality. They aggressively support suspect's rights in illegal narcotics and drug cases against authorities that sometimes trample on defendants’ rights.
