About MISSION VIEJO
With a population of about 98,000 people, Mission Viejo is the 76th most populous city in California. This beautiful city is known for its natural green tree-lined streets. Mission Viejo is the definition of a suburb. The city is 98% residential and 2% commerce.
Did you know? MV is one of the two largest single master-planned communities ever built in the United States.
The city is named after an old Spanish Rancho-Mission from the 1700's. Back in the day, after the Mexican American War, Gringo John Forster purchased the original Rancho, which held the rights to much of the land in and about Mission Viejo. Forster was an original arms-dealer, supplying horses the the US Military, so his chunk of real estate was well protected from out-laws and whatnot.
In the 1800's, Mission Viejo lands were used primarily as cattle and sheep grazing land. Since the terrain was challenging and water was scarce, agriculture did not develop for many years. Infact, in the 1960's small minded, or traditional (if you will) developers called the land in Mission Viejo as "un-developable". LOL.
However, a forward thinking, obsessed urban planner named Donald Bren came up with a residential development plan that made the rugged terrain work. Today, Mission Viejo retains the great parts of its Spanish heritage, with the houses and shopping centers in the city being almost uniformly designed in a classy Spanish mission style, with adobe walls and barrel-tile roofs.
Sadly, not all Californian Cities had their good architects design the majority of the buildings. Fortunately, the great examples of Mission Viejo architecture will inspire others to create beauty based on ancient building traditions.

MISSION VIEJO CITY POLICE - THE MARIJUANA FILES
Despite a Federal report that there is no association with an increased accident rate with the consumption of Marijuana, local police are starting to test for THC in roadblocks. The reality is that most people that toke, don't go out driving, and if they do, they tend to be overly cautious, while it's just the opposite with drunk drivers. They overestimate their driving ability, think they are sober when they are stupid drunk and make very bad decisions. Most of the cops know this but, still allow non-productive activities like this to eat up their time.
Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department presented their second Marijuana Summit at the Orange County Rescue Mission in Tustin. Nearly 300 people attended the event, doubling the turnout of the first summit in 2013. Those in attendance included law enforcement, probation officers, social workers, educators, medical staff, prevention groups, elected officials, and counselors working with kids.
